If you’d like to change to a different tyre size and see if there are any benefits to having larger or smaller tyres, you’ll need to compare tyres size. After doing the comparison you're better equipped to make the correct choice and go with the tyres that offer optimal performance.
Even though you can put a few different sized tyres on your rims, you can’t put anything on there as your wheel arch may not be suitable and the tyre will rub on the car and therefore not be roadworthy. Most often people will decide on getting larger tyres than those currently installed as it does fill out the wheel arch and make the car look better. To make sure your new tyres will fit, you’ll need to compare tyres size against what is currently installed and see if you have room. Larger tyres can increase handling, and provided you’re aware of the difference in your speedometer (if nothing more than to save you from getting fined), changing tyres is a relatively easy process.
You can book in with Lube Mobile to change your tyres. We can make a selection from the tyres we have available, or you can call our customer service team if you need a specific brand. If you want a particular brand and we don't have it in stock, we can order it from our suppliers, but it may delay when you can get them installed. If you need some help to compare tyres size, we can let you know if the new size you're considering is suitable.
As your local mobile mechanic, you can book in for all your car services and car repairs. We can also repair tyres if you have a puncture and need it fixed. We operate all over Australia, and you can consider us as the mechanic that is always ‘near me’. All our mechanics are employed by Lube Mobile and we do not franchise out any of our vans. This means that if you get your car serviced far from home (e.g., if you were away on holidays) and you get back home and a part is faulty, we can honour the warranty and get it repaired quickly.
We have mobile workshops working in cites, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth, and in many other locations all over Australia. If you’re ever not sure if we have a mechanic available you can enter your local postcode into our online booking system and it will show you who can attend to your car. If you have any questions about the services we offer, you can call our customer service team on 13 30 32 during their working hours (7 am-7 pm), and they’ll be able to help out.
You can compare tyres size reasonably easily provided you know where to look. On the sidewall of your tyres, you'll see a series of numbers. These will usually look something like xxx/xx Rxx. This sequence of numbers represents different measurements of the tyre. The first three are the section width of the tyre and this is measured in millimetres. The next number is the sidewall height and is a percentage ratio of the tyre width (e.g., if the number is 50, the sidewall height is 50% of the width). The last number separated by the letter indicating the type of tyre (R for radial is most common in car tyres) is for the diameter of the tyre and it is measured in inches.
By looking at these measurements it’s possible to compare tyres size and see if the new tyres will fit in your wheel arch. Most people enjoy the look of tyres that fill the arches. It can give your car an excellent looking profile, and often larger tyres do offer some performance advantages, however, sometimes these advantages are overshadowed by the negatives. But if you’re looking at these tyres from a purely aesthetic appeal, then going for a larger wheel and tyre combination can be the answer.
At Lube Mobile, we can replace your tyres with a size that you prefer. When you enter your details on our booking page, you can choose which size tyre you’d like to have installed on your vehicle. We can supply tyres and install them. If you are choosing a different size to the ones currently on your vehicle, we’d recommend you properly compare tyres size to make sure that everything will fit properly. It’s also recommended that you're fully aware of the changes to your car. Some of these include:
Speedometer accuracy - when you change the tyre diameter your speedometer will read slower than your actual speed
An increase in tyre size:
Better handling and performance
May increase fuel consumption
Are often louder than smaller tyres
They’re more expensive to replace
A decrease in tyre size
Provide a softer ride, but is quieter
Cheaper to buy
May look odd against a large wheel arch
If you need local tyre shops to supply and install your new tyres, you can book in with Lube Mobile. We’ll come to your car and complete the job. This can save you time as you won’t need to take your car to a workshop. For the best results and most economical sense, we’d recommend waiting until you need a tyre replacement before choosing to upgrade to larger tyres.
